COGnitive Gaming was an American eSports organization. It was one of the first organizations venturing into SMITE by picking up their first team in July 2013. It has since been home to several European, American, and Oceanic SMITE lineups, most notably the lineups of COGnitive Prime and COGnitive Red, which were leading teams in Season 1 before disbanding leading into Season 2. The organization shut its doors on 31 December 2016.

This article describes its main lineup, which has been dubbed COGnitive Prime. For the other teams, see COGnitive Gaming Xbox, COGnitive Red, COGnitive Forge and COGnitive EU.

History

Pre Launch

COGnitive Gaming was originally comprised of Shing, MLCst3alth, Allied, Kaeyoh and 0mega. MLCst3alth was eventually benched for not playing the game enough by Shing, and was replaced by Incontinentia. Kaeyoh later retired from competitive Smite. Allied, Incontinentia and Shing then founded SNIPE Gaming, with 0mega leaving at the same time.

Andinster then invited 0mega and MLCst3alth to his new team, whose other members were BaRRaCCuDDa and DaretoCare. For the remainder of pre-launch, COGnitive Gaming almost went undefeated, only losing to DownToFrag.

Season 1

COGnitive Gaming placed third during the Smite Launch Tournament, being defeated by Team Dignitas in the semifinals. They were almost defeated by SNIPE Gaming earlier in the tournament, but due to an unfortunate misplay, COGnitive Gaming eventually won that matchup.

Season 2

Spring Split

On February 15, COGnitive Gaming signed their new roster, comprised of What's Kraken members.

Summer Split

On July 23, Meerkat and bchm parted ways with COGnitive. Meanwhile, Homiefe returned to the jungle, while Wubbn and Baskintodaface join as the new support and solo laner, respectively.[1]

In the Fall Relegations, COGnitive successfully defended their SPL spot against a freshly sponsored Noble eSports in a convincing 3-0 series, qualifying for the Fall Split.

Fall Split

On August 13, only days before the start of the split, FaymousHate announced the team had been released by COGnitive Gaming.[2] It was later clarified by COGnitive's DeamonMachine that the roster had disbanded instead, leading to the contract release of the players.[3]

On the same day, a new roster was seen joining the in-game clan. It was then confirmed by COGnitive owner David Fry that this would be the new lineup.[4] This new roster, comprised of former Fat Chunks Assemble members Aror and Cabom, and veterans Meerkat, djpernicus, and TheBest. The season was spearheaded by djpernicus' Guan Yu and Ratatoskr picks, as well as TheBest's Hel. Finishing with a final record of 13-15, they qualified for the NA Super Regionals. Facing off against Cloud 9 in their first set, they were defeated 0:3, although all were very close games. In the months following, Meerkat and Cabom both left the team citing poor team chemistry, as well as their desires to play other roles. On January 23, 2016, the organization wound up without a roster and SPL spot as TheBest, Aror, and djpernicus joined Team Eager.
