Atlantis Leviathans is a team participating in the Smite Pro League. The team is owned and operated by Hi-Rez Studios.

History

The Atlantis Leviathans formed ahead of Season 8 of the SPL in February 2021, alongside seven other teams managed directly by Hi-Rez. The initial roster consisted almost entirely of the former roster of Sanguine Esports, retaining Jarcorrr, Panitom, Sheento, and Ronngyu. Joining them was Julio, formerly a member of Belt Slap, a notably successful European team, replacing Netrioid from the Sanguine roster. In the transition, Jarcorr swapped from playing Solo to playing Hunter to accommodate the addition of Julio, himself a solo laner, as well as the loss of their previous Hunter in Netrioid.

2021 Season

The Leviathans competed in the SPL season for a few months before controversy began to stir surrounding Julio. He was briefly suspended before receiving an indefinite ban following significant backlash as a result of repeated instances of in-game toxicity. The vacant spot was quickly filled by Zapman, who left the Solar Scarabs roster to take Julio's place. As Zapman primarily played Carry, this allowed Jarcorr to return to his preferred position in Solo. Throughout the entire season, the Leviathans consistently placed at 3rd-4th, with the exception of the Phase 3 split, where they ended in 1st place, only dropping a set to the Tartarus Titans. The Atlantis Leviathans managed to qualify for the Smite World Championship. During their run, they only managed to drop one game and that was to the Camelot Kings during the semifinals. During the finals against the Tartarus Titans, the Atlantis Leviathans won convincingly with a 3-0. This was a feat that had not been accomplished since the 2016 Smite World Championship. The MVP of this tournament would be given to Jarcorrr.

2022 Season

Retaining their roster from the previous year, the Leviathans had an unexpectedly shaky start to Season 9. While performing extremely well in the Pre-Season, being the only team to not drop a set, they faltered considerably in Phase 1, placing 6th. In the Spring Masters tournament, they placed 11th out of 16 teams, defeating the Oni Warriors but losing to the Camelot Kings and the Tartarus Titans. During the summer season, the Atlantis Leviathans had placed 5th place, with a 50% win rate. The Atlantis Leviathans, however, were the first team to break the win streak of the Camelot Kings, who at the point looked like the strongest team in the league and who was favored to win the Summer Masters Tournament. During the Summer Masters Tournament, the Atlantis Leviathans lost during the quarterfinals, being beaten by the Camelot Kings. A day after this loss, Jarcorrr would announce on his Twitter [1] that the Atlantis Leviathans would be looking for other solo laners. This caught many people off, as Jarcorrr was the Season 8 SWC MVP. Sheento and Ronngyu would reiterate that Jarcorrr was not kicked due to his performance, but due to internal difficulties between him and the team. As of August 18th, the Atlantis Leviathans welcomed Haddix to their team. The fall season would show the shift that the Atlantis Leviathans would have in preparation for the World Championship. While their first game during the split was a loss to the Oni Warriors, the rest of the split went very well for them. With Sheento and Panitom playing to their potential, the team would defeat powerhouses like the Jade Dragons, Camelot Kings, and Tartarus Titans. During the fall split, the Atlantis Leviathans would break the record for the longest win streak by a team. This record, held by NRG Esports with 10 wins in a row, would be broken when they won against the Olympus Bolts, giving them their 11th win streak. Their next match, however, would break their streak as the Camelot Kings would win and topple who many viewed as undefeatable. With nothing to play for and the playoffs being soon, the Atlantis Leviathans decided to have some fun. For their last match of the split, they would play some fun picks against the Oni Warriors and lose.

Coming into the SPL Phase 3 Playoffs that would decide picks for the Smite World Championship, the Atlantis Leviathans were a fan favorite. They would make quick work of the Tartarus Titans and move to the finals against the Camelot Kings. In an intense match that went 3-2, the Atlantis Leviathans would lose to the Camelot Kings and come in second place. Since the tournament was about picking teams to phase off during the quarterfinals of the Smite World Championship, the Atlantis Leviathans would pick their opponent second. Their opponents for the quarterfinals were the Tartarus Titans, a team that the Atlantis Leviathans felt comfortable beating. This pick drew amazement from fans as many viewed the Oni Warriors as the weaker team. The decision to pick the Tartarus Titans would be a fatal one for the Atlantis Leviathans. During the quarterfinals, Cyno, who recently joined the team in November of 2022, would have a great set with Thanatos. The Tartarus Titans would 2-0 the Atlantis Leviathans, ending their season in the quarterfinals and denying Zapman his fourth SWC win. The team would be crushed, and the future is unclear for them. It is hard to tell whether the team will continue together during season 10 or if the core of Ronngyu, Sheento, and Panitom are done. While retirements have not been announced and teams are still in the process of preparing for season 10, the future is uncertain for the team.

2023 Season

The Atlantis Leviathans started their year by picking up fan-favorite players Fineokay and Adapting in solo and jungle respectively. There was much excitement among fans concerning this roster, as Adapting joining would mark his official return to the Smite Pro League. As much excitement was met with this team, fans would have to wait a while to see the team in full force. During the kickoff tournament, Sheento [2] announced that he cannot make the kickoff tournament since he was at his home country of Uruguay. Gabeethan would be taking his spot during the tournament. With a sub, the Leviathans showed an admirable but still disappointing showing, as they were knocked out of the tournament by the Jade Dragons in a 2-1 set. After the conclusion of the kick-off tournament, the Leviathans would be placed alongside the Oni Warriors, Jade Dragons, and Gilded Gladiators in the Chaos Division. During the first half of the summer phase, the Atlantis Leviathans would be plagued with inconsistency and Sheento still being on ping. The team did not seem to be meshing well and while they looked great at times, they managed to only get three wins during the entire phase. Two 2-0 sets against the Gilded Gladiators and a 1-2 set win against the Jade Dragons. After the set with the Dragons, Sheento would be back in Georgia. However, their troubles still continued. Yet, due to how divisions worked, their 30% win rate would mean that they were the 2nd best team and auto-qualified for the semifinals, as the Jade Dragons and Gilded Gladiators were struggling as well. During the Playoffs for the Summer Masters tournament, the Atlantis Leviathans had a great showing. They would 3-0 the Gilded Gladiators and would defeat the Camelot Kings in a 3-2 set during the finals. The team, invigorated, had qualified for the quarterfinals against the Styx Ferrymen. Unfortunately for the Atlantis Leviathans, the Styx Ferrymen were a formidable foe. After losing 2-0 to them, the team would be eliminated from the tournament. As of now, the fall tournament has not started.
